I want to rank number one organically, but why is it so hard?

Have you wondered why you don’t show up number one for those keywords you want? Maybe you are thinking by some dumb luck you would end up in the top three spots; hell, maybe you’ll even take the first page since you are so desperate for the recognition!

What you may not realize is that there is so much that goes into ranking high organically in each of the search engines; problem is, most so-called SEO experts only know what contributes to rankings, not precisely how you can end up number one.

I’m not even going to begin telling you that my advice will get your website on the first page, but I will give you ideas and techniques that can help you get your business website some search engine love. You can thank me later.

What you should know right off the bat is that it’s all about keywords and the content relevancy of your site. So if you are going to start somewhere with on-page SEO, start here. As your business’ marketing person, you must first decide which main keywords you want to target. Not just a handful of keywords. You must decide on a target keyword for each main landing page. Yes, that’s right, choose a keyword specific to every landing page.  To help generate some keyword ideas, I recommend using Google KeywordTools.

In choosing keywords, there are some important details to pay attention to prior to going through this exercise.

  1. Decide if you are targeting a local or national audience. There is a tremendous difference in how to optimize for local search versus national. I will go in depth into this subject at a later time.
  2. Don’t necessarily pick the keywords that have the most traffic. It’s likely the big dogs are going after these, but it also doesn’t guarantee high conversion rates either. If you are looking for more sales on your website, you might want to think about specific action words instead of broad-based keywords that have high search rates.

Start with some foundational keywords for each of your pages and we’ll address what to do from here later this week.
