The importance of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is undeniable, so much that if a marketing professional doesn’t have an SEO strategy, then they are likely limited to relying on word-of-mouth and other linking strategies to be found by unique visitors.
I say SEO is important, but what I really mean is that it is second most important to writing great content.
What do I mean by that? Well, put it this way: if you don’t write great content, content that will keep a visitor engaged, then SEO isn’t worth a damn. Sure, a great SEO strategy may land you multiple unique visitors daily, but in the end, if you don’t have good copy that visitors will even think twice about reading, then don’t even bother with it.
It’s amazing how quickly visitors can spot a website that doesn’t bring anything to the table; literally, in a matter of seconds most web surfers can judge as to whether or not engaging will be worth their time and they will bounce.
Let me reiterate.
- Learn how to write great content. Engage your visitors and keep them coming back for more by offering them some value for their time.
- Once the content is in place, create your SEO strategy. In all reality, you can do these steps simultaneously, but if you struggle to write content I recommend starting with content first.
If you are building a new website and you already know how to create engaging content, then by all means, work on SEO and Content at the same time, you will be much further ahead than those who are missing a few of the pieces.
